Major event of this temple is the Mahashivarathri celebrations. Celebrations begin from 5 days prior to Mahashivarathri day. Temple art forms like Patakam, Chakyar Koothu, Kathakali, etc. with other popular programmes are conducted during the festival.
In temple, special poojaas and abhishekams are performed during the festival. On shivarathri, Ardha Rathri pooja is conducted at midnight with special abhishekam & Nivedyam.
At Theerthakkara, where Ganga theertham flows through the “Thirukulambu”, thousands of devotees perform pithru tharppanam during shivarathri under the guidance of temple priests.
Thilahavanam & Pithru Namaskaaram are performed at temple on the Amavasi day following Shivarathri.
Every year on Makayiram star in “Medam”,
Kalasham is conducted by temple Thanthri, Manayathattu Illathu Anil
Divakaran Namboothiri. On Thiruvathira Rudrapooja & Rudrabhishekam
is conducted.
This is the second largest important day of this temple after Mahashivarathri. Due to the presence of Gangatheertham at Theerthakkara of this temple, thousands of devotees perform Pithru Tharppanam during karkkidaka vavu.
At temple, Thilahavanam & Pithru namaskaram is conducted.
On Vinayaka Chathurthi day, Ashtadravya Maha Ganapathi Homam is performed at the temple. 251 cocunuts are used. Special poojas are performed for Ganapathi. Evening there is special Deeparadhana for Ganapathi.
Saraswathi Mandapam arranged at Gaurishankaram Kalyana mandapam is the venue for Navarathri celebrations. Saraswatha Ghritham is given from day 1 to the students who assemble at the mandapam and then Saraswathi vandanam is performed under the guidance of priest.
On Durgashtami day evening, books are
submitted at the mandapam for pooja and 5 poojas are carried out till
Vijayadashami day morning. On Vijaya Dashami day, blessed books are
given back to devotees and Vidyarajagopala Samooha Archana is conducted
for students.
Mandalam(41 days from Vrishchikam 1), is observed at this temple with lot of special poojas & other ceremonies. There will be total 5 poojas during this season. Navakabhishekam is also conducted daily. Apart from this, Sreerudra dhaara, sahasra nama archana, Special deeparadhana, Chuttuvilakku etc. are conducted till Makara vilakku.
On Vaikkathu Ashtami, which comes in the month of Vrishchikam, special deeparadhana is performed in the morning time 5:30. Lot of devotees assemble to have Ashtami Darshanam.
Every year, Srimad Bhagavatha Sapthaha yajnam is conducted in the month of Vishchikam/Dhanu. It is arranged in such a way that yajnam is completed on the previous day of Thiruvathira festival in Dhanu month. Lot of Bhagavatha scholars led this yajnam during past years including the prominent ones as given below:

Vedasaara Shiva Sahasranama Laksharchana is conducted every year on Thiruvathira star of Dhanu month as part of Thiruvathira festival.
Monthly Repeating Events
Every month on Thiruvathira day, 5 poojas with Navakam, & Panchagavyam is conducted. Sreerudra dhaara is also performed. Special Nivedyam is “Pizhinju Paayasam”
On Ayilyam star of every month, special pooja and Noorum Paalum is conducted at Sarppakkavu. Ayilyam in Kanni month and Pathamudayam (Medam 10) are important.
On amavasi day hundreds of people perform pithru tharppanam at Theerthakkara at north side of this temple. Kashi theertham flowing through the Thirukulambu at Theerthakkara is used for pithru tharppanam. Thulam, Makaram, Kumbham & Karrkkidakam amavasi are important. During Karkkidakavavu & Kumbha vavu(after shivarathri) thousands of people perform pithru tharppanam at this holy place – Kashi in Kerala.
On every Amavasi, Thilahavanam & Pithru namaskaaram is conducted at temple.
Events Repeating every 15 days
PRADOSHAM is an optional fast to propitiate the god Siva. It falls on the evening of the 12th or 13th lunar day(THRAYODASHI), when special Pujas are offered to Siva in this temple which will be illuminated for the occasion.
Special offerings done on this day
at this temple are Ashtabhishekam & Pradoshapooja with Deeparadhana.
The devotees who observe the fast bathe and worship the god early in
the morning and keep fasting till the evening when they take a second
bath and attend the temple smearing their body with ashes. They circumambulate
the temple reciting prayers to Siva till the Puja is over which will
be behalf-past 7or 8 p.m. They give tender coconuts as offerings . The
priest will return these, to their owners who break their fast by opening
them and drinking the water in them. They leave the temple taking along
with them rice offered to the lord Shiva. The Vilva or Koovala flowers
sacred to Siva is the chief article of Puja to Siva.
